Wood Fence Installation

We Install  Only the Best Western Red Cedar

Since 1996, our team has focused on delivering only the finest Western Red Cedar fence to our clients. Our cedar is supplied directly to us from the finest sawmills in the United States. This enables us to maintain tight control over the quality of the items we sell. We purchase only the highest grade fence material. By purchasing directly, we are able to supply only the best quality lumber at a lower price to you.

Our fences are completely custom-built, ensuring that each fence we install meets the exact specifications of your worksite. Western Red Cedar timber contains natural oils that make it inherently resistant to deterioration. Western Red Cedar is an excellent choice for outdoor fence.

All oil-based staining products are compatible with our fence material. You may stain your fence whatever color you like to match your backyard, or you can use a clear sealant to protect the natural look and beauty of fresh wood. If left untreated and let to weather, our cedar will gradually fade to a lovely silver-grey hue. Allowing your cedar fence to weather naturally has no effect on the fence's integrity or durability.

Our first aim is to provide you with superior service and quality. Our highly-recommended professionals can install your fence for you.  We will offer loose lumber in 1′′x6′′ or 1′′x4′′ board sizes. Rails, posts, and completed sections are all available and may be delivered directly to your home for easy self-installation. Our staff have been educated to deliver the best possible standard of workmanship while installing fences.

We offer over 35 types of cedar fence in a variety of heights. Fence styles that are popular include solid, board on board, picket, traditional, and board on batten. Most may be customized with your choice of top, including dog ear boards, arched tops, scallop tops, and gothic and French gothic boards. There are two types of lattice topping: square and diamond. Lattice may be readily added to the top of the majority of our fences, providing a designer and imaginative appearance to your fence. We also provide Stockade Fence with round posts for a more rustic appearance. Stockade is a white cedar product that comes in two finishes: Milled and Rustic. It is available as a solid or picket type fence in a variety of heights.

There are lower grades of Western Red Cedar available in the greater Chicagoland region. Our cedar is Western Red Cedar of the highest quality. Purchasing a high-quality forest product ensures that your fence has the maximum life, longevity, durability, and attractiveness. We are the #1 rated cedar fence company in Illinois. We are a family-owned and run business that guarantees your satisfaction. We take pleasure in our work and look forward to serving you for years to come.

Wood Fence Installation Schaumburg IL

Cedar Fence Company Schaumburg
Wood fencing is a great option for most suburban homes. It has a natural appearance and is very resistant to abuse. Living in the Chicagoland area however is not too kind to wood fencing. Expect to get a 15-20 year lifespan from cedar fencing. Cedar fence installation is a popular choice due to its consistency, smell, and beautiful appearance. If you are okay with the limited lifespan, you have the option of having it stained by us in any color you choose. Staining ensure it retains its coloring and looks its best for an extended period of time.

Cedar Fence Installation
The most common cedar fence styles today are vertical board with dogear pickets. A newer trend we've been seeing is horizontal board with staining and steel posts. The metal fence posts offer more longevity over cedar posts. The most common repair we do on fences are cedar post replacement, so aluminum or steel posts avoids this issue altogether. Most storms will knock over an old cedar fence fairly easily. But having galvanized steel or aluminum posts with cedar pickets should provide you a longer-lasting fence than the traditional styles.

Wood Fence Styles

wood fence materials fence company schaumburg il
There are more than a few options when it comes to fence styles for wood specifically. Wood fences are custom built, and generally adhere to these main styles. There may be slight deviations from these general designs based on the type of posts, post caps, board style, picket top, etc. But the overall concept still applies.

The main fence styles for wood are:
  • Picket fencing - spaces between the pickets also known as picket fence
  • Privacy fencing - no spacing between the pickets
  • Shadowbox Fence / Board on Board - boards overlapping for better privacy or air circulation
  • Horizontal Fence - same as privacy just pickets are flipped horizontally with no spaces between
  • Split Rail Fence - usually used on large stretches of land or simply to partition a property

Horizontal Fence Installation

Horizontal fencing has become extremely popular in recent years. Horizontal Fence have their pickets, or boards, horizontal instead of vertical like your typical fence. Horizontal fencing requires a different type of installation, as well as different materials. The boards that go in between the posts are not your average pickets, they are usually pre-fabricated with a tongue and groove design to overlap and fit together like a puzzle. This results in a higher cost in material and more limited options.

Horizontal Fencing with Metal Posts

Not only can horizontal fencing be a great option, when combined with metal posts, you get the best of both worlds. Metal posts with a cedar fence allows for a fantastic contract with the wood grain, but you also get the increased strength and rigidity of the metal. Metal posts in concrete are a sure fire way to have a strong fence that provides decades of service.

When using metal posts, we usually use either aluminum posts or steel. Aluminum is your most cost effective option, and doesn't rust. Steel is more expensive but offers added strength.

Cedar fence installation in Schaumburg, Illinois, combines the timeless charm of natural wood with modern craftsmanship to create boundaries that are not just functional but also aesthetically pleasing. This comprehensive guide delves into the intricacies of cedar fence installation in this locale, from material selection and design considerations to installation techniques and maintenance tips.
Understanding Cedar's AppealCedar is a highly sought-after fencing material due to its natural beauty, durability, and resistance to decay and insects. Its aromatic oils not only repel pests but also imbue the surrounding area with a pleasant scent. The wood's tight grain and fewer knots make it an excellent choice for a long-lasting, sturdy fence that withstands Schaumburg's variable climate, from hot summers to chilly winters.
Local ConsiderationsSchaumburg, Illinois, characterized by its continental climate, experiences a broad range of weather conditions. Cedar's natural resilience makes it an ideal choice for this region, capable of enduring the freeze-thaw cycles and humid summers. However, local zoning laws and homeowners' association (HOA) regulations may dictate specific requirements for fence installations, including height, style, and placement. It's crucial to consult these guidelines and obtain necessary permits before proceeding with your project.
Design and PlanningThe first step in cedar fence installation is designing and planning. Consider the primary purpose of your fence: privacy, security, aesthetics, or a combination of these. The fence's function will influence its design, height, and the spacing between slats. In Schaumburg, where residential areas often blend with natural landscapes, a cedar fence can serve as a seamless extension of your home's architecture, harmonizing with both the built and natural environments.
Material SelectionWhen selecting cedar for your fence, you have two primary choices: Western Red Cedar and Eastern White Cedar. Western Red Cedar, known for its rich color and exceptional durability, is a popular choice for its aesthetic appeal and longevity. Eastern White Cedar offers a slightly different look with a lighter hue and excellent resistance to weather and insects. Both types of cedar will age gracefully to a silvery-gray patina if left untreated, or they can be stained or sealed to preserve their original color.
Installation ProcessInstalling a cedar fence in Schaumburg involves several key steps, ensuring the fence is not only beautiful but also structurally sound:
  1. Site Preparation: Clear the fence line of any obstacles, including vegetation and debris. This step might also involve grading the land if your property isn't level.
  2. Post Setting: The longevity of a cedar fence significantly depends on the installation of the posts. Using a post hole digger or an auger, dig holes that are deep enough to go below the frost line—typically around 36 inches in Schaumburg. Setting the posts in concrete will provide stability and prevent shifting during freeze-thaw cycles.
  3. Rail Installation: Horizontal rails provide the framework for your cedar slats. These should be securely attached to the posts, ensuring they are level and evenly spaced.
  4. Picket Attachment: Attach the cedar pickets to the rails, maintaining consistent spacing. For privacy fences, the pickets may be placed side by side, while decorative fences might feature more spacing.
  5. Finishing Touches: Apply a protective finish to your cedar fence to enhance its longevity. A clear sealant will preserve the natural color, while stains can offer a variety of hues to complement your home's exterior.
Maintenance and CareCedar fences require minimal maintenance due to their natural resistance to decay. However, regular inspections and occasional cleaning will keep your fence looking its best. Check for any loose boards or posts, and promptly repair any damage to prevent further deterioration. Cleaning your cedar fence with a mild detergent and a soft brush can remove dirt and grime, preserving its natural beauty.
Overcoming ChallengesWhile cedar fencing is a durable option, Schaumburg residents may encounter specific challenges, such as local wildlife or extreme weather conditions. Incorporating deterrents like a critter guard at the base can protect your fence from animal damage. Additionally, ensuring proper drainage around your fence posts will prevent water accumulation, which can lead to wood rot over time.
