First off, ensure you have a legible copy of your Plat of Survey for the property. You will need this in virtually every town and municipality. The village will need this as a point of reference for the fence being installed, and will need to be submitted to us with the permitting paperwork.
Some basics to keep in mind:
- Schaumburg only allows up to a 5 foot fence for residential properties
- Schaumburg only allows semi-transparent fencing to be installed
- No "full privacy" or slats in chain link.
- Fence must be "shadow box" style with gaps in between
- Picket fences are okay as long as there is a gap that is 30% of the surface area
- You are allowed a 6 foot privacy fence only:
- In yards that back up to a commercial property or some type of public-use area such as a park.
- In yards that back up to a major thoroughfare (see their website for what those roads are)
- The "ugly side" of the fence must face inward toward your property
- No fencing is allowed in front yards
- No fence should extend past the house line
